The Sacramento State CARES office provides support to students who are in crisis or experiencing unique challenges to their education. We coordinate referrals to campus and community resources and offer follow-up support to address a variety of issues including, but not limited to:

The CARES office is open Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Case Managers meet by appointment. View the Make an Appointment Instructions.

Emergency Financial Resources
Emergency Grants are non-qualified scholarships to assist students experiencing problems in their academics because of financial challenges affecting their basic needs. Categories for emergency grants include: Eviction Avoidance, Rapid Move-In Support, Transportation Barriers, Course Materials, Technology, Utilities, Food Support, and Childcare. Please note, emergency grants will impact financial aid. To be considered for an emergency grant and learn if your situation meets qualifications, please make an appointment with a case manager.
*Emergency grant application are currently being accepted for Fall 2024. Emergency grant applications will be processed for disbursement after the census date, September 16, 2024.

Donations
The Seth Nelsen Student Emergency Grant (x12750) supports students who are experiencing one-time financial challenges. This fund helps cover unexpected expenses that impact a student’s enrollment. This fund is in memory of Seth Nelsen, the son of Sacramento State President Robert Nelsen and his wife Jody Nelsen, who lost their son to suicide. They remain committed to helping students in crisis, such as supporting this fund. Donate to The Student Emergency Grant
The Student Emergency Housing Fund (x12870) supports students who are currently residing in our short-term emergency housing program. Donations to this fund help pay for meals and housing support for students in one-time, unexpected housing emergencies that impact their enrollment. Donate to The Student Emergency Housing Fund
